The sense and nonsense of master planning

Hardly any zoo master plan has been realised in its entirety. And very fortunately so!  The world is changing rapidly, new options arise, new priorities are needed, and new insights develop. A master plan is a little tool to compare options and see their consequences visualized. It is a playground for new ideas.

A zoo’s master plan should therefore not be carved in stone but just be a sketch to scale, showing how areas interrelate. The master plan industry tends to bill tens of thousands of euros for presentations that are already obsolete only two weeks after completion. Erik van Vliet offers cost-effective master plan sessions. Coming to an effective result can typically be achieved in two days of brainstorming and sketching. Two additional days are all that is needed to also produce a quality presentation that also works for convincing presentations to third parties.
